Frequently asked questions

The Guild MCP Gateway is the access layer that connects AI agents to the tools, models, and integrations they need to do useful work. It sits between your agents and the outside world, brokering every tool call so that access, credentials, and approvals are enforced in one place, regardless of which agent is making the request or which vendor is on the other side.

MCP is the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for how AI agents connect to tools and data sources. It matters because it lets any MCP-compatible agent (Claude, Cursor, custom agents, etc.) use the same integrations without custom code per agent. Guild's Gateway makes MCP enterprise-safe: one integration binding per upstream system, governed centrally, rather than an MCP server per team.

Access is set at the workspace and agent level, not at the network level. Every tool call goes through the control plane, which resolves the acting user, checks policy, attaches the vaulted credential on the outbound hop, and only then makes the upstream call. Agents never hold provider secrets and never see approvals they aren't allowed.

Yes. The Gateway supports MCP servers, custom REST APIs, and any HTTP endpoint your agents need to reach. Build a connection once, govern it centrally, and reuse it across every agent and team, without standing up a new MCP server for each use case.

One MCP server per team means credentials sprawl, policy fragmentation, and no unified audit trail. The Guild Gateway consolidates access into a single control plane with one integration binding per upstream system. Policy and credentials live centrally, not in whichever network topology each team happens to build.
